Show off your family's artistic side in our summer tiny art show. You'll get a take-home kit to create a "book nook" to display at the library from July 17- 28 and a chance to win a prize. (Kit only.)

**Please note: Due to space constraints & the larger size of the book nooks, kits will be limited to ONE PER FAMILY.**

We've done paintings and we've done sculptures- now its time to create a "book nook." A book nook is a decoration that can fit between the books on your bookshelf- think skinny diorama.  For this tiny art show, we'll be giving you the basics to create the book nook, but the creativity will be all you.  Will your book nook show a scene from outer space? From under the ocean? The setting of your favorite book? Anything goes- the only thing you HAVE to include in your book nook is a table on which we can see a mini book (supplies will be provided). Maybe this mini book will be the inspiration for your book nook, or maybe it will just be a book you and your family enjoy. Here is Ms. Carrie's sample as an example:

On the shelf with the book, and a closer up view of the contents!

Here are the details about the event:

-Program supplies will be ready for pick-up between Friday, June 2nd through Monday, June 12th.  If you have not picked up your kit by June 12th (or made other arrangements by emailing crzeppa@gailborden.info), we will release it to the next person on the waitlist.

-This is a craft kit; there is no program or Zoom associated with this event.

-Your family can decorate your book nook however you choose, but you will need to provide the necessary supplies (paint, decorative paper, stickers, small 3D items, accents from nature).  The library will provide the book nook (a cereal box reinforced and cut to size), a wooden cube and disk glued together as the mini table, a mini book (that you can color and decorate), some popsicle sticks (to use to help printed or drawn pictures stand upright), and an instruction flier with tips on creating your masterpiece.

-After you have finished your work of art, return it to the library for the book nook expo. You'll have most of of June and some of July to create it.  Completed book nooks must by returned to the Main Library (KidSpace) by no later than Wednesday, July 12th.

-Patrons will be able to vote for their favorite book nook starting Monday, July 17, 2023 through Friday, July 28, 2023.  Come back and vote! The nook receiving the most votes will win a prize.

-Participants can pick up their book nooks starting Wednesday, August 2nd.  At pick-up, all participants will receive a certificate of participation (or award, if you are the winner) with their book nooks.  All book nooks need to be picked up by Friday, August 11, 2023 unless other arrangements have been made with Ms. Carrie.

-Winner will be announced the week of Monday, July 31, 2023.
