In this presentation, Dr. Antonio Ramirez, professor of history at Elgin Community College, will share histories of struggle and triumph from Elgin's Latino community.

Durante los últimos cincuenta años, una creciente población latina ha transformado dramáticamente a Elgin, los suburbios de Chicago y sus alrededores. En esta presentación, el Dr. Antonio Ramírez, profesor de historia de Elgin Community College, compartirá historias de lucha y triunfo de la comunidad latina de Elgin.

Se presentará en inglés con interpretación al español disponible.

El Dr. Antonio Ramírez es Profesor Asociado de Historia en el Elgin Community College, donde enseña cursos de historia de los Estados Unidos, historia de Latinx y gobierno de los Estados Unidos. Ramírez ha trabajado como periodista, educador y organizador comunitario en todo el Medio Oeste y México. Actualmente dirige el Proyecto de Historia Oral de Chicagolandia que documenta la historia de las vidas, el trabajo y la cultura de las comunidades Latinas en los suburbios y alrededor de Chicago.

Over the past fifty years, a growing Latino population has dramatically reshaped Elgin, Chicagoland, and beyond. In this presentation, Dr. Antonio Ramirez, professor of history at Elgin Community College, will share histories of struggle and triumph from Elgin's Latino community.

To be presented in English with Spanish interpreting available.

Dr. Antonio Ramirez is Associate Professor of History at Elgin Community College where he teaches courses in U.S. history, Latinx history, and American government. Ramirez has worked as a journalist, educator, and community organizer across the Midwest and Mexico. He currently directs the Chicagolandia Oral History Project which documents the history of the lives, work, and culture of Latino suburban communities around Chicago.
