Celebrate International Women's Day with local journalist Anna Marie Tomczyk, author of "We Are Eagles: Inspiring Stories of Immigrant Women Who Took Bold Steps in Life Through Literacy."
Author Anna Marie Tomczyk brings us some of the fascinating stories of the early students of the Dominican Literacy Center in Aurora. We Are Eagles tracks the founding and first 25 years of this center as seen through the eyes of the women whose lives dramatically changed since they learned English. Learn about Maribel, a domestic violence survivor from Mexico who raised a young daughter while cleaning toilets for a living, and years later ran her own restaurant and the Chicago Marathon! Other life stories include Juanita, who escaped stalkers by seeking a new life in America. And Blanca, who rose from housekeeping to management before a corporate decision changed her life. Join us for this special program as we celebrate International Women's Day today. Local journalist Tomczyk's work has appeared in U.S. News and World Report, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Daily Herald and others.
