Founded after the 1980 Winter Games, the Lake Placid Olympic Museum preserves Olympic history and will share stories from its collection in celebration of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Please Register

In 1974, shortly after the 1980 Olympic Winter Games were awarded to Lake Placid, members of the community decided to create a collection of materials pertaining to the Games for future use in a museum/research facility. At the end of the 1980 Olympic Winter Games, the Olympic and Winter Sports Museum, a private, not-for-profit museum, was opened at the former Austria House in Lake Placid. Today the Lake Placid Olympic Museum celebrates and continues the legacy of their role in the Olympic Winter Games through inspiration and engagement. Staff from the museum will share stories from their collection helping us celebrate the 2026 Winter Olympics.

This program is brought in partnership with the following Illinois Libraries: 

St Charles Public Library, Algonquin Area Public Library District, Fossil Ridge Public Library District, Wilmette Public Library, Ela Area Public Library, Morton Grove Public Library, Prospect Heights Public library, Roselle Public Library District, Cary Area Public Library, Gail Borden Public Library, Bloomingdale Public Library, and West Chicago Public Library District.
