**PLEASE REGISTER AND PICK UP A KIT FOR THIS PROGRAM ONLY IF YOUR SCHEDULE ALLOWS YOUR FAMILY TO RETURN A COMPLETED CREATION FOR THE ART SHOW. THANK YOU!**

**Registration for this program begins May 1, 2024**

One hundred and fifty years ago when Gail Borden Library was brand new, there were no American Girl Dolls, action figures, or Squishmallows. Kids would use paint, scraps of fabric and wood figures to create their own toys. This summer, get creative with your family and create a "peg doll" to display in our summer art show. Peg dolls don't need to be a DOLL- they can be animals, superheroes, famous people, or even your favorite book character.  Will you create a peg doll of Abraham Lincoln? Ash from Pokemon? An adorable panda bear? We can't wait to see what you come up with. Here is Ms. Carrie's sample with her clue card:

Here are the details about the event:

-Program supplies will be ready for pick-up starting Sunday, June 2nd through Sunday, June 16, 2024.  The kit will contain a large peg doll, a mini peg doll, a square foam core base, a "3 CLUES" riddle card that you will complete and return with your submission, and an instruction flier with tips on creating your masterpiece.

-If you have not picked up your kit by June 16th (or made alternate arrangements by emailing Carrie at crzeppa@gailborden.info), we will release your kit to a patron on the waiting list.

-This is a craft kit- there is no ZOOM event or in-person program associated with the art show.

-Your family can decorate the peg doll however you choose, but you will need to provide the necessary supplies (paint, decorative paper, fabric, Sharpie Markers, etc.).

-After you have finished your work of art, return it to the library for our mini art show. You'll have most of June and some of July to create it.  Completed peg creation and clue cards must be returned to KidSpace in the Main Library (270 N. Grove Ave, Elgin) by no later than Friday, July 12th.  If you are done, bring it early- we'll keep it safe in our workroom until the show.

-Peg creations will be on display in the KidSpace display cases starting Monday, July 15th. Voting for the peg dolls will run from Monday the 15th through noon on Friday, July 26, 2024. Come back and vote! The peg masterpiece receiving the most votes will win a prize.

-Participants can pick up their peg creations starting Wednesday, July 31, 2024. At pick-up, all participants will receive a certificate of participation (or award, if you are the winner.) All peg creations need to be picked up by Sunday, August 4, 2024, unless other arrangements have been made with Ms. Carrie.

-Winner will be announced via email on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
