The program will include two competition pieces at the heart of this reperiore: the Swiss virtuosic “Intrada,” by Arthur Honneger, and the Romanian rhapsodic “Legend,” by Enesco. Hindemith’s Sonata, written as he fled Germany at the start of World War II, is at the heart of the program and is contrasted by Françaix’s Sonatine, in a quintessentially French style. They will also bring you music from Russia by Peskin and a Gipsy Samba by the Mexican trumpeter Rafael Mendez. The special guest artist, Anastasiya Squires, will join the pair on flute for a tango by Astor Piazzolla to round out this afternoon of colorful and expressive music.
