Blank Notebook (or paper and staples or tape to make your own notebook)
Pen or pencil
Things to decorate your journal with: stickers, markers, colored pencils, pictures from magazines, watercolor paints. whatever you can think of!
What kind of animals do you see in your neighborhood? Make a journal book out of paper with a section for each kind of animal you expect to see and blank pages for unexpected sightings. Decorate your book with your own drawings or cut out pictures from magazines. Make a tally mark for each sighting or write a sentence about each. See a type of bird you don't recognize? Try to research it online to identify it.
